Meta Descriptions and Meta Keywords

Optimizing Meta Descriptions and Meta Keywords is a critical step in improving your store’s search engine visibility. Prado allows you to update this information in two ways: by setting them up in the Pages section or directly on the Products page.

What are Meta Descriptions and Meta Keywords?

  • Meta Descriptions: Short summaries of a webpage’s content. Search engines use them to display snippets in search results.
  • Meta Keywords: Words or phrases that describe the content of a page. While not as heavily used by search engines today, they can still support SEO efforts.

Update Meta Descriptions and Meta Keywords in Pages

  1. Log into Admin> Online Store
  2. Select Pages.
  3. Click the pencil icon on the specific page you wish to edit.
  4. Select Page Settings.
  5. Add Meta Descriptions (maximum of 165 characters) and Meta Keywords.
  6. Click on Save.
  1. Once done, you can go back to the previous page by clicking the top-left arrow button beside Page Settings.
  2. Click on Update Page > Publish Page.

Update Meta Descriptions and Meta Keywords in Products Page.

  1. Go to Admin > Products
  2. Select the specific product you wish to edit. 
  3. Click on Edit Product.
  4. Go to Page Details
  5. Add Meta Descriptions (maximum of 165 characters) and Meta Keywords.
  6. Click on Save Changes.

Tips for Meta Descriptions:

  1. Keep It Concise: Aim for around 150-160 characters. This ensures the full description appears in search results without being cut off.
  2. Include Primary Keywords: Use the main keyword for the page or product in the description to improve search relevance.
  3. Write for Humans, Not Just Search Engines:Make sure the description is appealing and persuasive. It should encourage users to click through by highlighting key benefits or solving a pain points.
  4. Make It Unique for Each Page: Avoid duplicating meta descriptions across different pages or products. Unique descriptions help search engines index your content more accurate.
  5. Describe the Page Content Clearly: Ensure the description aligns with the actual content of the page or product. Misleading meta descriptions can lead to a higher bounce rate.
  6. Focus on Value: Highlight what sets your product, service, or page apart. Mention unique features, promotions, or benefits to grab attention.

Tips for Meta Keywords:

  1. Stick to Relevant Keywords: Include keywords that are directly related to the page or product. Avoid stuffing unnecessary or unrelated keywords.
  2. Use Long-Tail Keywords:Long-tail keywords (e.g., "organic sweet potato") can be more effective in targeting specific searches and improving conversion rates. 
  3. Limit the Number of Keywords: A maximum of 5-10 targeted keywords is recommended. This prevents keyword dilution and helps search engines focus on the core content. 
  4. Avoid Keyword Stuffing: Don't overload the meta keywords with repetitive phrases. This can lead to penalization by search engines and damage your SEO. 
  5. Use Variations: Include different variations of your primary keywords, such as plurals or synonyms, to cover a wider range of searches. 
  6. Prioritize the Most Important Keywords: List the most important and relevant keywords first to increase their impact on SEO ranking.

By applying these tips, you can craft compelling meta descriptions and strategically choose meta keywords to improve your search engine ranking and attract more visitors to your site.
