How do I set up my scanner?

This document is about Socket Mobile scanners only. If you are not sure which type you have, check the brand name printed on the scanner itself. If yours is a NETUM, nothing on this page will work for it — NETUM scanners have no Companion app and no AA batteries, and are covered in How do I connect a NETUM scanner to POS Version 2?

Pair the scanner through the Socket Mobile Companion app — not directly in your iPad’s Bluetooth settings. Pairing through iOS alone is unreliable, and is the most common reason a scanner will not stay connected.

  • Turn the scanner on and check the small Bluetooth light. Blinking blue means it is ready to pair. Solid blue means it is already connected to another device — you will need to “Forget” it there first.
  • Open the Socket Mobile Companion app on the iPad.
  • Scan the pairing barcode Companion shows on screen. Three beeps means it paired.
  • Companion should now show the scanner (SocketScan S720) as Connected.

Open POS app

  • Go to the side hamburger menu > Settings
  • Tap Scanners
  • Wait for a second and you may hear a beep from the scanner
  • Tap the Find Scanners button
  • You should see the scanner listed (SocketScan S720)
  • Tap this item

To verify connection

  • Grab a product off the shelf and scan its barcode
  • Ensure the UPC number appears within the box
