Future Windows Inventory Guide for Store Employees
What is Future Windows Inventory?
Future Windows Inventory allows inventory to be managed separately for each receiving window (e.g., Monday and Thursday deliveries) instead of using one shared inventory pool across all fulfillment dates. This helps provide more accurate inventory availability and prevents overselling.
Managing Inventory in Admin
- Navigate to Stores → Inventory and select your store.
- Choose the Inventory Window you want to manage.
- Update product counts on the Shelf column as needed.
- Click Save. Changes only apply to the selected window.
Key Inventory Counts
- Starting Count: Inventory available at the start of the window.
- To Pack: Items committed to orders and subscriptions.
- Sold: Items already fulfilled.
- Available: Inventory remaining for new orders.
- Adjustment: Manual inventory corrections.
Subscription Demand
Future Windows includes upcoming subscription deliveries in the To Pack count before they become orders, helping teams plan inventory ahead of time and avoid shortages.
Troubleshooting
I don't see an inventory window selector.
Contact your administrator to confirm that:
- Persistent Inventory is enabled.
- Future Windows mode is enabled for your store.
My inventory looks incorrect.
Verify:
- Starting Counts
- Adjustments
- Recent inventory updates
- Upcoming subscription demand
Inventory changed unexpectedly.
Check:
- New customer orders
- Subscription commitments
- Manual adjustments by staff
Best Practices
- Update inventory as soon as new stock is received.
- Review future windows regularly to identify upcoming demand.
- Always save changes before switching windows.
- Monitor low-stock items and subscription commitments to ensure product availability.
Customer Impact
Customers only see inventory available for their selected fulfillment date, ensuring accurate availability and a better ordering experience. When a customer selects a fulfillment date:
- The system identifies the correct inventory window.
- Inventory is checked only for that window.
- Product availability is shown based on inventory in that period.
Example
If:
- Wednesday's window is sold out
- Friday's window still has inventory
A customer shopping for Wednesday will see the item as unavailable, while a customer shopping for Friday can still purchase it.
Quick Tip
Future Windows helps you stay ahead of demand by showing inventory commitments across upcoming fulfillment periods, making inventory planning more accurate and proactive.
