Setting Up App Push Notifications Using Firebase
Prado supports push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), allowing merchants to send standard push notifications and in-app messages to their mobile app users.
This guide walks you through the setup process and how to send your first notification.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have the following:
-
✅ Firebase Project Access
- A Google account with permission to create and manage Firebase projects
-
Ability to log in to the Firebase console:
https://firebase.google.com/
-
✅ Prado Mobile App
- You must already have a mobile application built with Prado
Step 1: Create and Configure Your Firebase Project
- Go to https://firebase.google.com/ and sign in or create an account.
- Create a new Firebase project and give it a recognizable name for your app.
- Invite Prado’s development team to your Firebase project with Editor access:
- Go to Settings (gear icon) → Users & permissions → Add member
- Add this email: qa.getprado@gmail.com
This allows Prado’s team to connect your app to Firebase.
Step 2: Prado Will Set Up & Connect Your App
Once invited, Our team will connect your mobile app to your Firebase project.
This process includes:
- Configuring Firebase with your app
- Submitting required information to Apple for approval (this can take a few days)
You will be notified when setup is complete and you are ready to send notifications.
Step 3: Send Your First Push Notification
Standard Push Notifications
- Go to your firebase messaging dashboard
- In the left side panel, click Run > Messaging
- Click New Campaign > Notification
- For Notifications, enter required information
- For Target, Select your connected mobile app
- For Scheduling , Select Now
- For Key Event, you can select next
- For Additional options, we usually enable sound > Review
- Publish
Firebase will provide a confirmation, and the user will receive the notification within 5 mins with the app open and in use or closed
In-App Messaging
These are more detailed, conditional notifications that only display once a day, and only show when the app is open. There are 4 Styles of in-app messaging
- Card
- Model
- Image Only
- Top Banner
To Send a in-app messaging notification:
- Go to your firebase messaging dashboard
- In the left side panel, click Run > Messaging
- Click New Campaign > In-app Messaging
- For The style of your choice, complete any required information > Next
- For Target, Select a Campaign name & Select your connected app
-
For Scheduling > Select Now, or
- You can set a conditional event that triggers the message as well (like when the customer trigger the add to cart event)
- We recommend you add a few events like login, or add to cart, since the default event is first open, which only triggers when the app is newly installed
- Note: the message will only show once, then will not show again for the device. You can edit this slightly, but it’s typically a 24 hour cool down.
- For Key Event, you can select next
- For Additional options, we usually leave it blank > Review
- Publish
Firebase will provide a confirmation, and the user will receive the notification within 5 mins of triggering the conditions.
Current Known Limitations
- Links from button actions do not currently work
Best Practices
✅ Use clear, short messaging
✅ Test with internal users before sending to all customers
✅ Use meaningful trigger events (login, add to cart, checkout)
✅ Avoid sending too many notifications
